I’ve committed to two different monthly projects this year to encourage me to shoot for more personal reasons.
I’m so excited about the food group and now a different group of gals has started a Fine Art group that will post images on the last Friday of each month.

Project Food: January Challenge

I am so excited to be a part of group of fabulous photographers that, throughout the course of this year, will be working on several different food photography challenges together!

I love to eat food…I love to look at how pretty it is and smell it….I love to try new recipes…. What I notice is, I always seem to try recipes that have great pictures with them. Ya know, like books! Well not really, I like long wordy novels, but lets say….magazines! Its amazing these days what photographers can do with a plate of raw eggs and how they can really bring depth and LIFE to a dish through a photograph. It has always amazed me!! So I’m so so excited to be mixed in with a group of wonderful photographers who are itching to learn more about food photography. I honestly can’t wait to see where this leads me! Maybe one day I’ll have a photo on the cover of Food Network magazine……..and maybe I’ll have the coolest image in the church cookbook!! Ha! But either way, I’m going to have fun doing it!

So here’s my first post for this first group. The challenge was to photograph a single type of fruit on a plain white backdrop. Seems easy, right? Well let me tell you…its tricky! Deciding on the angle of your light, the position of the food, trying to pick the perfect fruit…it all was a little bit harder than I thought it would be! But it was such a great exercise for ME in watching where the light falls and thinking about the placement of my reflector (a piece of white cardstock!). Although I didn’t fully edit each of these images to the extent that one might for a publication, I did enjoy each of these images for their own reason. Fruit is so beautiful! And so yummy!! I had lots of fun eating my subjects afterward…..another bonus to food photography!! Oooh, I can’t wait til we get into some desserts!

I had a hard time choosing which image was my favorite so I’m going with my initial reaction to seeing the cherries. The color just pops and cherries are so much fun! I don’t particularly love cherries, but they look so yummy! And I think that’s what I enjoyed those images the most….the idea of food photography is to make the food look attractive and yummy! I could bite into one of these right now!

And I couldn’t not post the rest of my practice shots!! These include a pomelo which is like a grapefruit and really yummy! kiwi and an apple.

So I hope you’ll come back for more food, photographs and even some tips along the way for getting your own food photography shots!

What a Beautiful mess I’m in!

I was sitting here realizing how far behind I’ve gotten in blogging. I’ll pop in every now and then when I get a moment but today I looked and I realized just HOW FAR BEHIND I AM in blogging! WOW!

To say that I was busy this summer/fall and holiday season would be an understatement! Blogging was the lowest on the totem pole despite how much I love to “talk” and write and share my images with all of you! Its winter time and I finally have a little bit of a break that I’ve scheduled for myself. And although I have this lovely break to get caught up, I kinda want to continue to hide out because I know what it will take to get every single session from the past 4-5 months blogged. It will take me a while but I really hope to get caught up because I have some really sweet moments to share.

For now, I’m going to start with a session from…..wait for it…..May!

I posted a sneak peek of this little sweetie pie a while back but she’s just too adorable not to share more of!

So while I promise to get caught up and share your beautiful family portraits on the blog, I appreciate your patience that you’ve given me. This one-woman-show has truly been blessed this past year with a wonderful group of clients, friends and family that has supported me and brought me to where I am today! I love ya for it too!!
